WEDDING: WEI YING+ALAN

Wei Ying and Alan’s beautiful celebration in muted earthy tones was my final wedding of 2019, and I was so looking forward to it! Not because I could finally take a break after a hectic year, but because they were the sweetest couple and had proposed such a funky theme.

The couple engaged me to do their personal flowers and decorate the reception area of Park Royal Hotel’s ballroom. The space has a prolonged layout in brown and beige tones, with wooden and light stone elements. In addition, it has two entrances on opposite sides. I had to think how to place a photo showcase and backdrop, while allowing guests to freely move from one area to another without causing overcrowding.

After a few meetings with the couple, we decided construct a grid gallery in the middle of the hall, which would connect the reception area to the bar area on the other side of the hall. The grid gallery was decorated with photos and flowers on both sides. We also created another grid set to serve as a backdrop for photos.

We used a muted and earthy palette of cappuccino, cream, and mustard with a touch of lilac and violet and accents of rust. I went for a highly textured look, with fluffy pampas, dried palm leaves and preserved foliage, anthuriums (I can’t do without them), roses, ranunculuses and plenty of various foliage and fillers.
